Six days by train in order to reach our first destination. After two days we had 15 hours of breathing some cold air and stroll the streets of Moscow. In that evening we embarked on the Trans-Siberian and in just a day we entered Asia, passing the Ural mountains. Still, we were only half way through...

The Trans-Siberian - a Romantic Journey?

                                by Marius, 05/11/2008

A friend of mine was telling me a while back that she would like to travel with the Trans Siberian train for her honeymoon. Why would you go on a more than 7000 km ride across the middle of nowhere, locked up in a 2 by 2 by 2.5 m cubicle with three other people, an ugly toilet with no shower and a dusty restaurant, I asked in amazement. It’s just a train after all. Because I think its romantic, she replied. And then she counter-attacked. Why do you go, if it’s so horrible? At that time, I did not really have a straight answer. But I did wander: is the Trans Siberian such a romantic thing to do really?

A few hours in Moscow

     by Mircea, 25/10/2008

I had left home carrying 26 kg on my back, 8 kg in the front and about 7 kg of food in my hands. So I decided to drop my trekking shoes in Bacau (where Marius joined me). All I kept were the boots and the sandals. I realized I had taken so many things because of the Romanian style of packing. This is how Romanians think: they don’t want anything missing or having to be bought during the journey.
